Question #4: Whose perspective is missing in this text ?What would it be like if we put it back ?


I am reading a book called Crank by Ellen Hopkins. The main character Kristina has a lot of situations that happens to her throughout the whole. Kristina has to deal with these issues all by herself, even though she "lives" with her dad. So I think that her father perspective is missing from the text. If the were in their daughters life and new what she was doing everyday. Kristina wouldn't be in that position of having to deal with so many issues in her life, at a young age.

In the book Crank I think that Kristina's father perspective is missing from the text. The reason I think this because, Kristina goes out with men at night that she doesn't even know. Where 's her father when you need him to say, " Where are you going, who are you going out with " etc. Her father doesn't have a clue what she does. She got a tattoo with out her father knowing anything. Seriously, I just don't understand her father does he have a brain ? Another example would be, she got pregnant with some guy she slept one night. Where was her dad to stop her. See, she got pregnant with some guy that doesn't even want the baby. Where was her dad when she needed him ?

I think that if the author Ellen Hopkins puts Kristina's dad perspective in the story, these situations wouldn't be happening to Kristina. Either if he did care and she still had these situations, she a least knows that her dad cares, and made an effort and confronted her. But I doubt these situations would happen if her dad perspective was in the story. Kristina would actually do the opposite and do the right thing and listen.

In conclusion, I think that Kristina's fathers perspective is missing from the text. These issues wouldn't had happen to Kristina if her dad was there for her. And also if  her father was there he would be able to tell her what's right and wrong, and be protective over her. Kristina would also feel like someone cares for me at least.

 I recently just finished a book called Crank by Ellen Hopkins. The main character Kristina, faces a lot of issues and terrible situations that kind of ruins her life. Some of the issues and situations that happen to her are social issues in the world. Some of these social issues that happen around the world, are really tragic and I care about these issue that I want to know more about.

One issue that happens in the book and is a social issue would be, teen pregnancy. Towards the end Kristina becomes pregnant and remember Kristina is only sixteen-years-old. Teen pregnancy happens all around the world and is big social issue. In my opinion I think that, teens wouldn't get pregnant if there parents would look after them. If a parent lets their daughter or son do what ever they want, come home when ever they want. Well of course a teen will take advantage of that and do what ever they want, what teen wouldn't ? Here's an example of Kristina, her father allowed her to do what ever she want to and hang out with who ever she wanted to. So since she had the right to do what ever she wanted to do, she had sex with boys and did drugs. This would have never happened if her father knew what his daughter was doing.

Another  social issue would be drugs, drugs are a very big issue lately in the world. Many teens have been doing drugs either just for fun or to fit in, they're following their parents footsteps, there are a lot reasons why teens could be doing drugs. Like I said in the previous paragraph, if the child's parent does not know what their child is doing, and give them a lot of freedom. Their child will take advantage of that freedom and do inappropriate things. Kristina started to do drugs in the beginning of the book with this boy she met. Even before meeting this boy she use to smoke.

These are the most biggest issues in the book Crank and also these are some major social issues. These types of topics can be solved and cant be solved. Some kids might want to change and they might have learned from there mistakes. Some might still be the same and not change at all. Those were some social issue that I like to know more about.

Have you ever read any book written by the author Ellen Hopkins ? Well your sure missing out on her books. One of my favorite books written by her would be Crank. Crank has been on a banning list for years. Parents think it has very inappropriate language and sexual content. I totally understand that this book has a lot to do with sex and drugs. But I think that it can teach kids a lesson, from the ages of thirteen and up. They should know the outcomes of when you do something bad or inappropriate at a young age, that here are your outcomes.

 In the book Crank by Ellen Hopkins, the main character Kristina does a lot of drugs and interacts sexually with lots of men. All this never happened when she lived with her mother. After she went to live with her dad all these things started to happen to Kristina. Her starting to do drugs. For example on pages 86-91 they all show her doing some type of drug with this boy she met when she went to go to live with her dad. On page 87, "Make you want to fly all night ", it also said on page 90 "powdered demons bite.'' Those two quotes from the book show Kristina is doing some sort of drug with this boy. This probably wouldn't never happen if her dad would care about his own daughter and worry about her. Kristina is probably influenced by her dad cause he always comes home high and says really rude things to his daughter. The things that Kristina does can give an example t kids, that you shouldn't do drugs cause her are your outcomes. If you do drugs your outcomes will not turn out to be great and that can hurt your life. So the reader can either take the example and learn from it or be influenced by it.

 

 Later on in the book after Kristina stop using drugs as much, she started to interact sexually with other men. She first started with Adam, that she met when she moved in with her dad. Then later on in the book she started to do it with different men. Let me start with Adam, when she was with Adam she would let him in charge of her. He told her when to do inappropriate things. "Let me eat you up" was on page 96, if I were Kristina I would have smacked him across his face. How does she feel when he says sexually thins to her. Kristina really just doesn't care about herself if she's letting men touch her and saying sexually things to her. On page 168 Adam says, "Put it right there.", now what is that suppose to mean. How come Kristina 's dad doesn't know about this, he is the one she is getting influenced by. On page 104 her dad said, "I shouldn't be tootin'. My boss almost caught me last time. Think I could convince her to try a line? I'd love to get her in bed." That's a very negative role model. What sixteen year old wouldn't follow her dads footsteps. After Kristina slept with Adam she got raped and when she had sex with this other boy, he raped her to. Now readers can understand that you shouldn't be having sex at that age.

 

 By now you probably already disagreeing with me that the book shouldn't get banned.You probably think that it should get banned because, Cranks main topics are sex and drugs. Kids are going to learn about this sooner or later, I think that they should know the outcomes of each little thing they do bad or good. In an article called Texas: If You Can't Ban Books, Ban Authors by Phil Bildner states that, "Ellen Hopkins remains hopeful that there can be salvaged and believes the opportunity exists for a valuable teaching moment." The author of the book made that statement herself, there can be a valuable teaching moment. Kids can learn for a book that shows bad things and there outcomes, maybe after they read that they'll think twice before doing something.

 

If the kid is really influenced quick then this book would be really hard for them to understand the concept. But if the child is old enough to understand the concept and be mature enough to handle inappropriate things, without following them then they can understand the bad outcomes. While I was reading the book I was in shock but I was mature enough. I wasn't going to go do drugs because a character in a book said it felt good. No, I know better and this book shows what happened to Kristina at the age of sixteen. If the child is reading the book, the parent can always sit down with there child and explain to them. There child will know some day or another, so how about notify them now before they find some bad influences and understand it the wrong way.

I really couldn't think about a specific picture book that's my favorite and that reminded me of a memory. So I decided to write about a my favorite children's movie. One of my favorite children's movies would be, Finding Nemo. I just love cartoon movies there the best, especially Finding Nemo. I like how the fishes talk and go to school. Also how there's a bad guy that wants to do harm, and a good guy that doesn't want to do harm to anyone. Finding Nemo makes me laugh and cry at the same time. I loved this movie so much, I would watch it over and over again.

 

 

This movie stirs up a lot of memories of mine. One of the memories that Finding Nemo reminds me of would be, when I got lost in the mall when I was about five years old. Just like in the movie, when Nemo gets separated from his father. It happened to me in a different way. I was five so I was looking at these pretty dolls. My mom was like come on, and she thought I was behind her, but I wasn't. What do aspect from a little five year old girl looking at doll ? So when I went to go to my mom, I couldn't find her. There were so many people there I couldn't see her.

 

 

One of the workers that worked at the mall saw me and knew that I was lost. So she carried me, and put me into a chair. Five minutes later my mom came out. She was in the bathroom that was right next to place I was sitting at. When I saw her I started crying and jumped into her arms. When she saw me, she was crying really hard and she hugged me really tight. I was so excited and relieved to see my mom. That was kind of the worst day of my life. I wonder how my mom felt ? Every time I see Finding Nemo, I would think of that specific memory and other memories similar to that one.

It also has some very inappropriate language and some very descriptive scenes that happen in the book. Even though some people who read this book might think I am crazy, but I don't think this book should get banned. Some might same that it should cause of its inappropriate context and descriptions of sexual actions.

Morocco

Morocco
 
Morocco is the most beautiful country in Africa, that's my opinion. The reason why I love this country is because, my mom is from there. Ever since I was little my mom would talk about Morocco. She's been also cooking Moroccan food since then. Did I say, I LOVE MOROCCAN FOOD?

I've always wanted to go to Morocco but I couldn't. My mom would tell me a lot of stories about her when she lived in Morocco. I love there clothing and shoes. I have one of the traditional outfits and shoes.   



This traditional dress is hand made by people. The material of the whole dress is also made by hand. The process of making this whole dress takes a long time. People don't really wear this on a daily basis. You can wear this to a wedding, any type of holiday and more events.

These are traditional shoes that are worn in Morocco. I have a pair that's in purple with little purple designs. People usually wear this on a daily basis. There really comfortable to walk in. There made out of sheep skin, then the are put in different types of colors. After it dries off they sew it together and put designs on it.

Morocco has a really beautiful architecture. As you can see in this picture its very detailed and professional. My mom said that people spend there time carving and painting sculptures like this one. Its not easy to do this from scratch and it takes time and patients. I really like to see things like this and explore them

 

 This a traditional cuisine in Morocco. The name of this dish is called Couscous. Couscous can be made with fish, lamb/sheep or chicken. My family and I like to eat it with chicken and lots of vegetables. This dish is really delicious and I love to eat it. I love to eat all Moroccan dishes.  

 

       
         Morocco in general is very beautiful. Morocco has lots and lots of beautiful things. There architecture, furniture, clothing/shoes, resorts are beautiful to explore. There food is so delicious and delightful to look at. The Theme for CRANK

                What is the theme in the book CRANK by Ellen Hopkins ?

                     

                   In the book CRANK by Ellen Hopkins is about a girl name Kristina. A sixteen year old girl who does drugs. I know your surprise by now because, Kristina is very young to be doing drugs and other inappropriate things at her age. When Kristina does drugs and other inappropriate things she refers to herself as Bree. Kristina refers to herself as Bree because, Bree is the one who would make the negative choices in her life. Kristina is the one who would think before making a decision. The author wrote this to show that when your influence by something negative here are your outcomes in life. Not everything your influence by is going to benefit you.

 

 

                    Kristina has another side to her which she refers to as Bree. On page 83, Kristina gives a brief explanation about the positive and negative side of her. Bree is the one who makes the negative decisions which can affect her. One part where the author states this idea is on pages 90-91. In this part of the story Adam and Bree are doing cocaine or in other words some type of drug you sniff. What is Bree doing, is she out of her 16 year old mind ? When Bree went to go stay with her dad for two months, Bree met this boy name Adam. After they got to know each other, Bree started to like Adam and he liked her to. Even though he already had a girlfriend he still did things with Bree. Bree was mostly influence by her dad and Adam, because there the ones who mostly did drugs around her. So Bree of course made the negative decision and followed into there footsteps.

 

 

                      Another part where the author shows Bree making the wrong decisions is on pages 96-97. On these two pages this is where Bree and Adam interact sexually. When I read this part my jaw dropped because, Bree only knew the boy for like a week. She's sixteen years old, Adam is older then her and he has a girlfriend. What in the world was she thinking ?  But they both got caught, Bree got caught by her dad, and Adam got caught by his girlfriend. When Bree saw her dad she ran home, but while she was running home. These three huge men blocked her way, and they raped her just a little bit. Bree was lucky that Adam came just in time before she was fully raped. Do you see what happens when you make the wrong decisions in life ? Those are your outcomes, don't make the wrong decisions or else.

 

 

                     In my opinion, I think that the monster Kristina talks about that is inside her is Bree. I think the author wants me to think this because, she is giving us the negative side of Kristina, so I guess Kristina doesn't want that negative side of her anymore. Hopefully towards the end of the book the negative side of Kristina will no longer exist anymore. Also from her learning from her mistakes, she will now know that those are my outcomes if I make the wrong decisions in life.
