Reading Response : Poem

The speaker in the poem I Too by Langston Hughes. Express his emotions in the poem in a complicated way. He wouldn't just write his emotions out on a piece of paper. Then make it onto a poem, it was kind of mysterious. The speaker in the poem, I Too has probably experienced racism. He was probably left out cause of it. In the end of the poem he has hope and confidence. That he will be treated the same as everyone else.

The speaker in the poem shows racism but, the author doesn't make it obvious for the reader to notice quickly. The speaker seems like he is African American. From my perspective, the speaker has experienced racism. " I am the darker brother." (1) and " They send me to eat in the kitchen when company comes over."(3-4) These two quotes from the poem hints that this poem is about racism. In the beginning of the poem he wasn't sure how to react , when he got sent to eat in the kitchen when company was over. At the end of the poem, he showed hope and confidence " Tomorrow I'll be at the table when company comes over. Nobody'll dare say to me in the kitchen then." This shows that he didn't like the way he as being treated. He was sticking  up for what's right. He finally had the courage to stand up for himself.

This poem made me feel awful because, they made him eat in the kitchen when company came over. In my opinion I think that's very rude and disrespectful. I would feel irate and upset. At the same time it made me feel glad and releaved. At the end of the poem he had so much hope and confidence. He didn't let them take over and treat him like he's nobody. He took over and stood up for himself.

To sum it all up, the speaker was inspirational to me. The speaker was very descriptive of how he was probably treated. Just because of his skin color. At least he was confident and did what was right. I think that this can be an example to kids. Who are also experiencing racism. That they should stick up for themselves

Reading Response

Reading Response : The Faults in Our Stars by John Green

I am currently reading a book called, The Faults in Our Stars by John Green. So for this book has been really interesting to me. The main character Hazel has cancer called, Thyroid which is in her lungs. So Hazel's mom put her in a program called, The Support Group. At first Hazel really didn't want to go. After she went their and got to know other kids her age and older, that also have cancer. She started to enjoy going to the program and expressing her self. Hazel felt like she can relate to other kids who also have cancer like her.

At first Hazel thought that she wouldn't enjoy going to The Support Group. Once she went their she felt like she could relate to other kids there. She met a lot of older kid then her that also have cancer. One of the older kids that Hazel met which she thought was attractive, name was Augustus Walters. Augustus has a type of cancer called osteosarcoma. He was very deep but he didn't keep to himself , he was open minded. He was also very sarcastic. For example , " How are you doing " asked Patrick " Oh I'm grand" Augustus smiled with a corner of his mouth. "I'm a roller coaster that only goes up, my friend. '' That was one example of Augustus being sarcastic. That was also an example of a characteristics of Augustus. Towards the end of that chapter, Augustus and Hazel know each other and start to talking and get to know more about each other. Augustus even invites Hazel to his house
to get to know his parents.

Hazel really cares about other people and there situation. Hazel has a good heart and care about other people. For example, when Augustus took a cigarette out of his pocket. Hazel flipped and started yelling at him saying, " Are you serious ? '' I asked " You think that's cool? Oh, my God, you just ruined the whole thing. " ............. " OH MY GOD even though you HAD FREAKING CANCER you give money to a company in exchange for the chance to acquire YET MORE CANCER. " Hazel just met Augustus and she already worrying about him. But Augustus wasn't even smoking he just puts the cigarette in his mouth, he doesn't even light it. That was on characteristics of Hazel. That was also one example of Hazel caring so much about other people.

In conclusion, Hazel and Augustus have a long way together throughout the whole book. Unless something happens to one of them? Hazel is a really caring person. Augustus is  really sarcastic, but will his sarcasm take him to far and result in a horrible situation.
