FINAL BLOG POSTS-The Maze Runner by James Dasher

I really enjoyed having these book clubs and reading an awesome book, that was really interesting to read. I found the books clubs really helpful for me because it helped me think a lot about the book. It also made me think a lot about the character and there emotions and more. I think having talks with our book club members made it more easier and clearer to understand the book, especially if your confused about a part in the book. It also was a good thing having talks with our book club memebers because, we get to hear what others have to say about the book. We get to hear there own opinion on the book or the part of the book. I also thought writing a synthesis page was helpful for the whole group. It help us understand the the main point of the book. It also helped us focus on the theme of the book and the characters feelings and more. I really enjoyed having book clubs it helps us wanting to read more.

The Maze Runner was a really interesting book to read and I'm glad that I read it. I thought it was gonna be really boring by just looking at the cover of the book. But it turned out to be a really interesting story to read. I think the main character Thomas has gone through a lot from the beginning to the end of the book. Thomas's emotions has changed from the beginning of the book to the end . For example in the beginning of the, Thomas was very shy, lonely, confused, lost and a bunch of other emotions. He didn't know where he was in the beginning of the story. But towards the middle of the book he started to relax and he started to make friends. He also started to understand the concept of what they do their. Towards the end of the book he feels relieved and unstressed. The Maze Runner focusses on Thomas feelings and emotion . The author James Dashner really focusses on that which makes the story interesting. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Nonfiction Reading Response

  Imaging 2014 by Isaac Asimov

An article that I really enjoyed reading in the Upfront magazine is called, Imagining 2014 written by Isaac Asimov. This article is about how a scientist and a sci-fi write imagined 2014. He predicted 2014 in such a fantasy, with flying cars, underwater cities and moon colonies. Even though he's prediction and imagination was wrong, he did predict some things that now exist. Asimov saw a article in 1964 in The New York Times and predicted that in 2014. There will be video calls such as Skype and FaceTime etc. He also predicted that there would be 3-D movies, and "miniaturized" computer or as we call them today laptops, e-readers and GPS.

This article was very cool and interesting to read. It makes me wonder what will be Invented in the future. What will exist that we see in movies now a days ? Things that we imagine, things that might come true one day. If  a man predicted something in 1964 and came true in 2014. Then in 50 years from now something big and unordinary might be invented and created for everyone. Its a really cool thing to think about, think about the future and what cool and exciting things that will be for the next generation and so on. So many people don't really think about what will happen from here to 10 years etc. People in this generation should start predicting and should start inventing. This article was very interesting to read, and it made me think a lot about unordinary things that might happen.

Final Poetry Assignment

Dark Thoughts

 I wonder if
 I
gaze in the dark would
be scared

No light shining bright where I can see
just darkness where there is no vision for me
would
I
be scared

Those monsters trying to scare my sick
Hiding underneath my bed waiting for me to look down
should
I
would
I
be scared

Scared of the things that don't exist
That might exist
Believing that they do
Fearing that they would come after me
I'm
not scared

They don't scare me at all
Not at all
But do they scare you

Reading Response : Poem

The speaker in the poem I Too by Langston Hughes. Express his emotions in the poem in a complicated way. He wouldn't just write his emotions out on a piece of paper. Then make it onto a poem, it was kind of mysterious. The speaker in the poem, I Too has probably experienced racism. He was probably left out cause of it. In the end of the poem he has hope and confidence. That he will be treated the same as everyone else.

The speaker in the poem shows racism but, the author doesn't make it obvious for the reader to notice quickly. The speaker seems like he is African American. From my perspective, the speaker has experienced racism. " I am the darker brother." (1) and " They send me to eat in the kitchen when company comes over."(3-4) These two quotes from the poem hints that this poem is about racism. In the beginning of the poem he wasn't sure how to react , when he got sent to eat in the kitchen when company was over. At the end of the poem, he showed hope and confidence " Tomorrow I'll be at the table when company comes over. Nobody'll dare say to me in the kitchen then." This shows that he didn't like the way he as being treated. He was sticking  up for what's right. He finally had the courage to stand up for himself.

This poem made me feel awful because, they made him eat in the kitchen when company came over. In my opinion I think that's very rude and disrespectful. I would feel irate and upset. At the same time it made me feel glad and releaved. At the end of the poem he had so much hope and confidence. He didn't let them take over and treat him like he's nobody. He took over and stood up for himself.

To sum it all up, the speaker was inspirational to me. The speaker was very descriptive of how he was probably treated. Just because of his skin color. At least he was confident and did what was right. I think that this can be an example to kids. Who are also experiencing racism. That they should stick up for themselves

Reading Response

Reading Response : The Faults in Our Stars by John Green

I am currently reading a book called, The Faults in Our Stars by John Green. So for this book has been really interesting to me. The main character Hazel has cancer called, Thyroid which is in her lungs. So Hazel's mom put her in a program called, The Support Group. At first Hazel really didn't want to go. After she went their and got to know other kids her age and older, that also have cancer. She started to enjoy going to the program and expressing her self. Hazel felt like she can relate to other kids who also have cancer like her.

At first Hazel thought that she wouldn't enjoy going to The Support Group. Once she went their she felt like she could relate to other kids there. She met a lot of older kid then her that also have cancer. One of the older kids that Hazel met which she thought was attractive, name was Augustus Walters. Augustus has a type of cancer called osteosarcoma. He was very deep but he didn't keep to himself , he was open minded. He was also very sarcastic. For example , " How are you doing " asked Patrick " Oh I'm grand" Augustus smiled with a corner of his mouth. "I'm a roller coaster that only goes up, my friend. '' That was one example of Augustus being sarcastic. That was also an example of a characteristics of Augustus. Towards the end of that chapter, Augustus and Hazel know each other and start to talking and get to know more about each other. Augustus even invites Hazel to his house
to get to know his parents.

Hazel really cares about other people and there situation. Hazel has a good heart and care about other people. For example, when Augustus took a cigarette out of his pocket. Hazel flipped and started yelling at him saying, " Are you serious ? '' I asked " You think that's cool? Oh, my God, you just ruined the whole thing. " ............. " OH MY GOD even though you HAD FREAKING CANCER you give money to a company in exchange for the chance to acquire YET MORE CANCER. " Hazel just met Augustus and she already worrying about him. But Augustus wasn't even smoking he just puts the cigarette in his mouth, he doesn't even light it. That was on characteristics of Hazel. That was also one example of Hazel caring so much about other people.

In conclusion, Hazel and Augustus have a long way together throughout the whole book. Unless something happens to one of them? Hazel is a really caring person. Augustus is  really sarcastic, but will his sarcasm take him to far and result in a horrible situation.

Reading Response on Non-Fiction

Non-Fiction Reading Response

The article "The Bravest Girl in the World" main idea is about how a 16 year-old named Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head, for fighting for the right of girls having an education. Last year the Taliban shot Malala in the head for fight for women rights, and for young to have an education. The Taliban didn't like what Malala was saying about women rights and girls freedom. The Taliban had never seen a young girl speak about what's right.

" Don't worry I told her, the Taliban have never come for a small girl"  Her father thought that the Taliban would never come for Malala, for speaking for her right. But he was wrong. The Taliban didn't care what you were or how old you were. They couldn't just accept the fact that Malala was right and they were wrong. Since Malala got shot in the head on October 9th. 2012. Every young girl and older have been on Malala side since then. Everyone is standing up for her and are also fight for women rights and education for girls.

The wanted the author wanted to make us readers feel what Malala went through. Imagine us girls didn't have an education. I don't think anyone would be able to stand up for there rights. So the authors is trying to show strength and independence. Malala wasn't afraid to stand up for what she knows is wrong, and let other young girls suffer for nothing. Malala was so confident in herself to do that, she didn't care about the Taliban. She still stood up for her right, which shows independence and courage.

In conclusion, Malala was a very confident teenager who stood up for her rights. She wanted to let women have there freedom and young girls like her and even younger to have an education.  Even though the Taliban still shot her in the head, she still stand strong. And she has a lot of women and young girls by her side, and agree with her.

Revised Reading Response

I recently just finished a book called Crank by Ellen Hopkins. The main character Kristina, faces a lot of issues and terrible situations that kind of ruins her life. Some of the issues and situations that happen to her are social issues in the world. Some social issues that happen around the world, are really tragic and I like to know more about.

One issue that happens in the book and is a social issue would be, teen pregnancy. Towards the end Kristina becomes pregnant and remember Kristina is only sixteen-years-old. Teen pregnancy happens all around the world and is big social issue. In my opinion I think that, teens wouldn't get pregnant if there parents would look after them. If a parent lets their daughter or son do what ever they want, come home when ever they want. Well of course a teen will take advantage of that and do what ever they want, what teen wouldn't ? Here's an example of Kristina, her father allowed her to do what ever she wanted to and hang out with who ever she wanted to. So since she had the right to do what ever she wanted to do, she had sex with boys and did drugs. This would have never happened if her father knew what his daughter was doing. Kristina is kind of following her father's footsteps.

Another  social issue would be drugs, drugs are a very big issue lately in the world. Many teens have been doing drugs either just for fun or to fit in, they're following their parents footstep. There are a lot reasons why teens could be doing drugs. Like I said in the previous paragraph, if the child's parent does not know what their child is doing, and give them a lot of freedom. Their child will take advantage of that freedom and do inappropriate things. Kristina started to do drugs in the beginning of the book with this boy she met. Even before meeting this boy she use to smoke. She once found her father in the store buying drugs.

These are the most biggest issues in the book Crank. These are some major social issues around the world. These types of topics can be solved and cant be solved. Some kids might want to change and they might have learned from there mistakes. Some might still be the same and not change at all. Those were some social issue that I like to know more about.
